Majestic Dale gets a major facelift
DROGHEDA Tidy Towns have expressed their delight at the fantastic work which members of the Red Door Project have undertaken at the Dale.
“I would like to commend the participants and staff of the Red Door Project which have brought the heritage of Drogheda and the region alive through their amazing murals. Their hard work has really rejuvenated the Dale. We are delighted to support this community project which is a great addition in advance of the Fleadh. We would also like to commend all the Community Groups and Residents Associations in Drogheda who have worked tirelessly to make our town look its best which will no doubt impress the huge number of visitors expected in the coming weeks,’ he stated.
Cllr Pio Smith said the participants in the Red Door adopted the Dale area as part of Louth County Council’s strategy to prepare the town for the Fleadh.
‘We have people who have excellent skills in painting, gardening and horticulture and it was decided to put these skills to good use for the benefit of the town and the results can be seen by all.
‘Unfortunately we can’t get to the upper Dale as it is infested with Japanese Knotweed and I have requested the council to inject the plant and kill it.
‘When this is done we will finish the whole area. However, the guys have done a fantastic job and they have great pride in their town. Also, a special word of thanks to Elias Mlimba from LCC who provided for the area”
Louise Mahony, manager of the Red Door said “This has been a great project to be involved in because it creates great civic pride in our wonderful town all flowers when you can see how an area can be transformed and made into an amenity where young and old can enjoy”.
Joanne O Dwyer, a supervisor with the Red Door, was equally delighted. “The participants and staff have worked every day for the past five weeks weeding, planting,hedge cutting and painting. The mural around the steps looks fantastic and great credit must also go to our resident artist Gary McGuire who worked with the lads to create a beautiful piece of work. The mural represents the Boyne, the salmon of knowledge, Millmount, and Irish Folklore.’
