€250,000 in cash is foundon Cement Road

DROGHEDA gardai, targeting the members and activities of rival organised crime gangs in the area, have made a significan­t discovery of cash close to the halting site on the Cement Road.

Gardai confirmed this week that as part of their efforts, that aims to curb the operations of local criminals, they found in the region of €250,000 in cash.

‘At 2pm on the 9th of August 2018, Crime Units / Detective Unit from Drogheda Garda station assisted by members of the Armed Support Unit conducted searches of the buildings and surroundin­g areas of a Halting Site at Mell in Drogheda,’ gardai reported.

‘During the course of the search, cash in excess of €250,000 was discovered.

‘ There was also an amount of suspected cocaine found estimated to be worth about €5,000.’

Gardai say that no arrests have been made in respect of the discovery of money and investigat­ions are ongoing at Drogheda Garda station this week.
