Sonairte hosting Heritage Day event
SONAIRTE Visitor Eco- Centre and Gardens in Laytown hold their annual Heritage Day this Saturday (August 18th), in conjunction with National Heritage Week.
Visitors on the day can discover the folklore behind the trees and the magic and reverence attributed to them in centuries past during a walk and information talk through the gardens while you can also join foraging teacher Zaneta Wright on a foraging walk around the beautiful site – learning about wild and unusual edibles and discovering all the interesting new flavours as you do.
If the buzz of the bees are your kind of thing, the ‘Bee Aware’ workshop and ‘Wild Bee Presentation’ talk cover the important role of bees as pollinators, common Irish bumblebee species and a discussion on how schools and local communities can create safe shelter and food for bees.
Anyone in attendance on the day can also enjoy a spot of bird watching, join the local beekeepers in the bee museum and enjoy what the local craft stalls have to offer.
The Heritage Day is open from 1pm to 5pm on the day. Sonairte is an interactive visitor centre promoting ecological awareness and sustainable living.
It was established in 1986 by members of the local community and concerned environmentalists to promote environmental awareness and education.
