St Oliver celebrated as church opens shop

- By HUBERT MURPHY

A new shop has opened at the front of St Peter’s Church - just in time for the Fleadh.

It features a range of items, many associated with St Oliver Plunkett.

The shop will open from 11am to 7pm until next Sunday and it may become a regular feature after that.

A special information booklet on the church has also been produced for the Fleadh.

Fr Barry Matthews says St Peter’s is at the heart of Drogheda and as a result it has attracted great interest this week.

‘So many people visited St Peter’s to see the relic of St Oliver when they were young and many are now coming back years later with their children. We are holding tours of the church and welcome everyone to come along,’ he stated.

Daily structured guided tours will take place at 11am and 7pm from Monday to Saturday.

The parish programme also includes the popular ‘NightFever’ event and a special youth mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Saturday August 18th at 7.30pm.

The closing mass of the Fleadh will be celebrated ‘as Gaeilge’ by Archbishop Eamon Martin on August 19th in St Peter’s at 11am.
