Westinghouse for Dunleer
A sight to gladden the heart! That would be a fair summing up on the feelings of Dunleer people who have gone along to see huge diggers, bulldozers and earth removers at work on the Ardee Road site for the £3.2 million factory being established by Westingbouse Electric Corporation of Pittsburgh.
There were the doubting Thomases when the locally based minister, Mr Faulkner announced at the end of May that production was expected to start next year in the 72,000 square foot factory which Westinghouse would be building on a 21 acres site acquired by the IDA
“If there is a shell of a factory there in a couple of years, never mind a completed structure it can be proclaimed from the rooftops” was not an untypical sort of comment.
Such pessimistic peddlers will now have to do another think. It is all systems “go” at the moment. Circuit breakers, control gear, and other delicate electrical components are to be manufactured in the new factory for the European markets.
Mr Ed Licht (pictured left), who was among those present at the May press conference is the General Manager Designate of the new plant. A native of the U.S., he has seen service with Westinghouse in many lands including Spain and South America.
