MUSIC, DANCING AND SONG - IT’S THE FLEADH!
DROGHEDA WILL BE GOING GREEN FOR THE WEEK TO ENCOURAGE RECYCLING
AFTER years of planning, the week has arrived when Drogheda will be at the centre of the cultural world, both nationally and worldwide.
There are hundreds of events taking place throughout the week, from music and song to drama and film, making this a very inclusive celebration.
A number of art exhibitions have also been organised.
The Green Fleadh Committee, in conjunction with the Fleadh Executive Committee, are making great strides to “green” the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Drogheda. The committee is comprised of Louth County Council staff, members of the Drogheda Tidy Towns committee and representatives of the local business community.
The Green Fleadh Team will be based in the Fleadh Office in West Street during the week of the Fleadh. There will be a Waste Bin Challenge taking place outside the offices which will challenge visitors to segregate their waste, with small prizes on offer. The team are looking forward to meeting many locals and visitors alike and are confident that Drogheda will go green for Fleadh 2018!
One of the most spectacular events could be the screening of The Wild Goose Lodge movie, the story of the burning of the Wild Goose Lodge in Reaghstown in the 19th century, in the Arc Cinema.
The film, the brainchild of local man Willie Martin and starring a number of actors from the area, including Hughie O’Neill, as well as more established stars such as Father Ted’s Joe Rooney, Fair City’s Dave Duffy and Finbar Furey, will be shown on Saturday August 18th at 8.30pm.
The film was first released nationally almost two years ago and since then has enjoyed screenings in cinemas across the world, including the UK, United States, Canada and Australia. It was filmed around Reaghstown, elsewhere in Louth, Meath and in Carrickmacross.
