Joes edge tight battle with Roche

-

ST JOSEPHS ROCHE EMMETS 2-13 2-11

THE Joes finished their Division 2 League campaign with a narrow win over Roche Emmets in what was a tight contest with three points or less between the sides at all times.

It was Roche who got off the mark first at Cluskey Park through a Dan O’Connell point but the Joes hit back and with Alan Quigley, Oisin McGuinness and Darragh Smith all on target they moved into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Roche then regained the lead when Dan O’Connell grabbed a goal and point in quick succession, but again the Joes responded with a superb goal from Conor Neary on 22 minutes.

The home side finished the half on top with points from Craig Doherty and McGuinness to lead by 1-9 to 1-6 at the break.

The Faughart outfit fought back at the start of the second half and got back on terms

when a goal from Conor Carthy made it 1-10 to 2-7 at the start of the final quarter.

Roche then edged two points clear and looked to be on course for victory but the

game turned in favour of the Joes when Jordan Mackin superbly dived full length to deny Roche a third goal, the Joes swept up field with Peter Brennan laying off for Shane Barron to hit the net for the Joes with just two minutes of normal time to play. Second half substitute Paddy Quigley levelled for Roche, however it was the Joes in added time who hit the two final scores from Peter Brennan and Jack McNamee.
