DUNDALK GAELS

OUR seniors’ defeat to Newtown Blues in Drogheda on Saturday evening confirmed our refelgatio­n to Division Two of the league. We were beaten by two points after holding a big lead, but with results going as they did elsewhere we would have taken the drop even had we won.

We remain in contention for the championsh­ip, however, and in the middle of next month play Dreadnots in the quarter-finals at St Brigid’s Park.

Our juniors, who wound up their league programme last week, are out in the championsh­ip this evening (Tuesday), taking on Newtown Blues at Pairc na nGaeil. Club members are asked to get along to lend their support.

Tickets for the lotto will be on sale at the match, and at Grant’s Newsagents, Dublin Street. It could be worthwhile purchasing one, as the jackpot stands at €13,800. The draw will take place around 9 o’clock in the clubrooms.

GLEN EMMETS

IN the Division 4B Championsh­ip Glen Emmets play Sean O’Mahony’s in Cusack Park tonight (Tuesday) at 7.30pm.

In Division 2 Round 11 we beat Oliver Plunkett’s on Sunday, but in Division 5 Round 11 we lost to Sean O’Mahony’s last week.

Well done to our Division 1 U-14 boys who beat O’Connell’s/ Mitchel’s/Stabannon Parnells in the quarter-final on a 6-8 to 7-7 scoreline.

Well done to Aoife Russell and her Louth Ladies teammates who beat London on Sunday and are now through to the All-Ireland semi-finals.

Bingo takes place every Friday night in the Ardee Parish Centre from 8pm. There are some great cash prizes to be won on the night including the winner takes all flyer. Next weeks jackpot is €7,000.

John Mitchel’s GFC held a very successful 6K Run and Family Fun Day on Sunday. We also launched our Healthy Club Initiative on the day.

We’ve had a great response to our initial expression of interest in Ladies GAA, so we’re just trying to get final numbers so that we can get the ball rolling. John Mitchel’s are looking for ladies and girls of all ages who would like to play GAA or maybe even just train with the club. Contact Frieda on 087-6962295 to let us know you are interested. John Mitchel’s played O’Connell’s in the last game of the Division 6 League last Tuesday in Castlebell­ingham. It turned out to be a fantastic win for the team who went 11 games undefeated.

It was also a historic occasion in that it was the first time the club won a second division league. Captain Aaron Keely was presented with the Donagh Cup by County Board chairman and fellow clubman Des Halpenny.

Well done also to the management team of Robert Coyle, Mark Kerr and Emmett Farrell.

THE seniors play off against O’Raghallaig­h’s in the championsh­ip relegation takes place on Sunday, August 26 at 11.30am in the Grove, Castlebell­ingham. They lost 2-20 to 1-15 against the Drogheda men on Sunday last in the last round of the league. Tadgh McEneaney top scorer with 0-10, Sean Hand 1-3, Shane Lennon and Killian Kampes 0-1 each. The juniors beat Finbarrs 6-14 to 3-9. The junior championsh­ip is on Tuesday August 21, away to winners of Dreadnots/ Plunkets at 7.30pm. The U16 team beat Gaels 3-14 to 1-2 in the championsh­ip on Wednesday last, and play away to Glyde/ McDermotts/Westerns/Kevins this Wednesday August 15 at 7.30pm. Congratula­tions to Fionn Connolly, on playing in Croke Park, on Saturday last before the Galway Dublin All Ireland semi final. Fionn is the current Louth Primary Schools football skills champion for 2018. The U15 team ended level away to St Pats 6-7 to 5-10 and play away to Wolfe Tones this Friday at 7.00pm and are away to Roche on Friday, August 24, at 7.00pm. On Monday August 20, the U13 team play away to St Fechins at 7.00pm, on Monday, August 27 at home to Geraldines at 7.00pm and Thursday August 30, away to St Josephs at 7.00pm.. The minors play at home to Dreadnots in the championsh­ip on Wednesday, August 22, at 7.30pm and the following Wednesday away to Gaels at 7.30pm.

KNOCKBRIDG­E

UNDERAGE training continues this Friday at 5.30 p.m. in the Brides field. New members always welcome.

On the playing front our U.13’s were defeated by the Mattock/St. Kevins combinatio­n side on a 7-6 to 1-6 scoreline. At half time only 4 points separated the sides but our young team ran out of steam in the second half.

This Tuesday our U-10 hurlers head to Philipstow­n for a blitz while Thursday sees our seniors facing St.Fechins in the second
