Drumconrath face dogfight for survival
CLANN NA NGAEL DRUMCONRATH 2-15 0-8
DRUMCONRATH went down to their fourth straight defeat in the JFC following this loss to previously pointless Clann na Gael.
After a promising 2017, this year has proved a major struggle and they now face a battle to avoid relegation to the Junior B ranks.
Clann na Gael started well and led 0-6 to 0-0 by the end of the first quarter as Drumconrath lost Sean McMahon to a black card. A number of Stephen Crosby points narrowed the gap, but a goal in first-half added time left the Athboy men leading 1-11 to 0-4 at the break.
Despite the best efforts of Crosby and sub Daniel Byrne, Drumconrath never threatened to get into contention in the second half. DRUMCONRATH: Eoin Muldoon; David O’Halloran, Peter McEvoy, John Lynch; Robbie McEntaggart, Peter Tighe, Cathal Dunne; Stephen Crosby 0-5, Sean McMahon; Conor Martin, Tomás Conlon, Cathal McEvoy; Patrick Farrelly, Alan Dunne, Graham Tighe. Subs: Daniel Byrne 0-2, Patrick Dunne, Derek Duff 0-1, Gavin Finnegan, Michael Og O’Gallachoir, Leighton Irwin.
