Darryn’s strike decisive in Tollstone showdown
ARDEE Celtic picked up what could be a crucial three points as they made a flying start to their Premier campaign against Duleek at the Tollstone on Sunday afternoon.
In the game between two of last season’s struggling teams, Bryan O’Connor deservedly put the away side into the lead on 29 minutes, helping the ball over the line after Darryn Gaynor had got a touch to Tristan Knowles’ corner kick.

of five players aged 19 or younger in the Ardee line-up - who couldn’t take advantage.
However, the lead didn’t stay intact for too long as the hosts levelled on 35 minutes. James Burke’s shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Ardee keeper Declan Butler and Duleek’s Sean Kennedy didn’t know too much about it as the ball hit him and crossed the line.
The outcome hung in the balance during the third quarter as both teams pressed for a lead goal, but eventually it was Ardee who succeeded on 68 minutes as Shane Hickey teed up Darryn Gaynor who, at the second attempt, found the roof of the net.
In the last 15 minutes Duleek had the majority of the possession, but the Deesiders hung on to claim three precious points.
