The winning trio of Kate Dwyer, Emily Murray and Catherine Gray will compete at the All-Ireland Finals in Knock GC (Belfast) on Thursday 23rd and everyone at the Baltray-based club is hoping they can go all the way and help inspire the next generation of junior golfers in the region.

The provincial competition at Tulfarris began with a tough match against Naas GC and the girls braved torrential rain and played some great golf.

Kate Dwyer got early points on the board, winning the first rubber 4&3, which was swiftly followed by a 2&1 win by Emily Murray. Catherine Gray was called in from

CO LOUTH LADIES

RESULT from the Professional’s Prize to Ladies (Paddy McGuirk), played last Tuesday:

Class 1 winner Mia Quinn (6) 44pts, 2nd Emily Murray (14) 40pts; Class 2 winner Susan McGuirk (24) 41pts, 2nd Teresa Ronan (22) 40pts; Class 3 winner the third rubber.

The second round was no easier as the rain continued to pour down for the match against Elm Park. After a tight start Kate got the ball rolling once again with a 3&2 victory.

The middle match was tight and that gave Catherine the opportunity to step up to the mark in match three and get a 2&1 win, leaving Emily to be called in.

Day two began with the semi-final against Grange, played in lovely sunshine. A 2&1 defeat in the first rubber was an early blow, but the added pressure proved no problem to Catherine and she made quite a statement with a 4&3 win in rubber number three, leaving Emily standing on the 18th tee, one up with one to play for victory.

With one foot in the final, all was looking good until a double bogey six forced a

Karen Murphy (30) 41pts, 2nd Phyllis Boyd (37) 34pts. Past Captains prize Lucy McConnell (12) 37pts, Senior ladies winner May Hayes, Nine-hole qualifier Heather Gavin (26) 22pts ob3. CSS Sat 75 = 36pts, CSS Tue 74 = 37pts.

DUNDALK

HARRY O’Hanrahan produced a superb back nine to take Sunday’s Singles Stableford on countback from Senior Panel member Neal McKell who showed he is running into form as Mount Juliet looms on play-off, but undeterred by the 18th-hole mishap Emily rose to the occasion and made a fantastic par on the first play-off hole to secure victory for the team.

That earned County Louth a place in the Leinster final against Mullingar and a nice start saw County Louth go 1up in all three rubbers.

Kate yet again got some early points on the board, winning 3&1.

It seemed Emily was content with playing two 18-hole matches and one 19-hole match and wanted to get off the course as quick as possible. She delivered a crushing blow, winning her rubber 5&3, leaving Catherine to be called in before another great match had concluded.

A spokesperson for County Louth GC said: ‘Huge congratulations must be given to the girls on their achievement, but a special

the horizon.

The three handicapper, who won the Junior Cup earlier this year, recorded the day’s best gross score of 39pts but his nett score of 42pts was only good enough for second overall as O’Hanrahan rolled back the years with a vintage display.

Now playing off 26, O’Hanrahan had three consecutive three pointers from the third hole as he went out in 18pts despite drawing a blank at the par three ninth.

Two more three point holes followed at the 10th and 11th and also at the 13th and 15th. But it was mention must be given to the fantastic work Deirdre Gray and Jackie Quinn and all the volunteers have put into the junior girls over the past number of years. No doubt the selfless effort and time they have put into the junior programme has had its part to play in the success.

‘Also, a huge thanks to Paddy McGuirk whose coaching has continued to guide the girls through their development.

‘It would be great to see members getting up to support the girls in Knock on August 23rd. If you can’t make it, live scoring will be available through the new club app on the day.’

Team manager Deirdre Gray added: ‘It’s great to see all the hard work finally pay off, I am delighted for the girls. A big thanks, and well done, to all the members that went up to support the girls as well.’

his par four at the long index four 16th that really made a difference to his card as the four points he picked up there, followed by two points at both the 17th and 18th saw him come home in 24 points and sign for a round of 42pts.

Alan Hurley (5) took Category 1 with 41pts, Fergal McKenna (18) claimed Category 2 while Larry Hanratty (24) took Category 3. Daniel Nordone (16) was the juvenile winner.

The Leinster Finals of the AIG Senior Cup will take place in Mount Juliet on August 25 and 26 when our senior panel will bid to

add to the Barton Shield pennant they won in Mount Wolseley last month. All support will be very welcome with Dundalk’s quarter-final against The Island teeing off at 8am on Saturday week.
