With two rounds to play in the Golfer of the Year, Clem Walshe has opened up a 10 point lead on Peter Rogers who lies second one point ahead of Brendan Duffy and Christy Ward with Neal MacKell a further point back in fifth place.

The Golfer of the Year will be based on seven counting scores out of the 10 nominated events and the following is the top ten based on six counting scores out of the eight events played to date.

DUNDALK LADIES

LADY President Marie’s Prize, an 18-hole stroke GoY, was held on August 7th.

This is the second most prestigiou­s Golfer of the Year Competitio­n of the golfing calendar. The course is playing longer and the ladies adapted well to the change in playing conditions.

Pauline Campbell played very steady golf, coming in with a 70 nett, followed very closely by Catherine Mullins who also had a 70 nett.

Catherine spoke of her delight at winning and thanked Lady President Marie for the wonderful prizes. Catherine played great golf and was delighted to be in the winning enclosure. Pauline was also thrilled to be in the winning enclosure because it was her first time to win a major since joining Dundalk Golf Club.

She thanked Lady President Marie for her beautiful prizes and the hard work she does within the club particular­ly supporting the ladies in the team events. Mia Quinn won the Gross prize with an 84nett. Congratula­tions to all the winners.

At the presentati­on evening Lady President Marie spoke about the wonderful year she is having and what an honour it is to be Lady President.

In attendance were Lady President Marie’s family, Lady Captain Pat, Lady Vice Captain Criona, Captain Gerry, President Gerry and guests. Lady President Marie said how delighted she is to be in a position to support teams and to go with them to play in matches.

Marie thanked the ladies for their support and thanked Lady Captain Pat for her continued support and good humour. She also had a huge thank you for the bar, catering and greens staff for all their hard work. Lady President Marie is a great ambassador for Dundalk Golf and we wish her the best for the rest of the golfing season.

LAST Thursday’s Open Day results: Marie McAnallen continued her good form winning with 39pts and trimming a shot of her handicap. Mary Hession (Dundalk GC) came runner up with 36 pts. Twos: Marie McAnallen on the 6th. CSS 74.

The National Breast Cancer Fourball Better Ball competitio­n was staged on Saturday. It was tough going but the scoring was excellent. Winners were Rosanna Crudden and Pat Cluskey with a great score of 41pts. Runners-Up were Emily and Seana McGuinness with 39 pts, Best Gross pair were Kay McCartan and Mary McGoey with 27 grs pts. Anne Davey and Siobhan Byrne came third with 39 pts.
