NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK
This coming weekend marks the beginning of Heritage Week with many archaeological & historical sites and monuments open free of charge to the general public.
SUMMER`S END.
How time flies. It only seems like it was a few short weeks ago when the children were getting off school for their summer holidays. Now, with all the uniforms, school satchels, copies, books, etc. filling up the shop shelves, the count-down is truly on for the return of the students. Like the great summer days, back in 1976, hopefully the summer of 2018 will become a long-lasting memory to the children & youths who have lived through this summer of sun.
MEATH RURAL SOCIAL SCHEME
Vacancy. Due to the expansion of the Rural Social Scheme, Meath Partnership is currently inviting applications from members of the farming community who may wish to seek employment on this particular scheme in Co. Meath. The primary aim of the scheme is to provide an opportunity for farmers and/or their spouses and, in some instances, their children, to earn a supplementary income through employment in local community projects, primarily in the development of local amenities, facilities and services in rural communities. For more details and for application forms, contact Barbara Gaynor at 086-6031077 or by e mail to Barbara.gaynor@meathpartnership.ie

FLEADH CHEOIL
As a result of the largest Irish Traditional Musical Festival in the world taking place in Drogheda town centre all this week, traffic diversions and parking r4estrictions are in place across the Boyneside. However, this should not stop anyone from travelling into thew town to witness this great social event of the year, entertainment at its very best with the streets and lanes, venues, pubs and restaurants of Drogheda packed to the `rafters`; a sight to behold for anyone who has never been to a Fleadh. Musical tastes should`nt even come into it, this is pure fun and entertainment for all the family. Do`nt wait to `hear that the Fleadh was great`; go and see for yourself at first hand that it was great!

MONASTERBOICE TOURISM & TIDY TOWNS.
The above held its 6th annual poetry, music and song gathering on Friday 3rd of August. The event began with a talk and walkabout at the famous monastic site at Monasterboice followed by a great night’s entertainment in Drumshallon Forge Heritage Centre.
Ten talented people recited poems; some read their own compositions, while others recited their favourite works from wellknown poets. There was plenty of music and song on offer as well and lots of opportunities for audience participation. All were also treated to some sean nós dancing - a new departure for our group.
Eoghan Mc Evoy and Bartle Woods played some traditional Irish music, while singers Páid O’Hare, Mary Maguire, Kieran Devine, Siobhán Seberry and the Fieldstown Church Choir entertained with some wonderful songs.
Monasterboice is looking absolutely magnificent at the moment and Seán McCormack, chairperson, gave an update on the work and achievements of the group (see below) and thanked all members for their interest and dedication.
Refreshments were served by the hardworking Tidy Towns’ committee members.
A massive thank you goes out to all the wonderful people who entertained on the night and also to everyone who attended and helped to make this a truly memorable event.

TIDY TOWNS.
The Tidy Towns, Louth Looking Good and Litter League competitions are all on at the minute. Through the hard work and dedication of the volunteers, Monasterboice won An Endeavour Award (Tidy Towns), A Special Merit Award (Louth Looking Good) and A Gold Medal (Litter League) in 2017. It’d be great to keep the gold medal in the Litter League which would be possible if everyone does their bit by binning the rubbish and keeping our beautiful Monasterboice clean.
Sponsorship, from a local business man, for the plants at Ferney Park and The Pope’s Cross has been generously given . More anon
