Your chance to be part of the ‘Dip in the Nip’ 2018

-

LADIES from all over the Northeast and Ireland and as far away as London are gearing up to strip off for the 7th Annual North East Dip in the aid of NECRET (Northeast Cancer Research & Education Trust) at a local Co Louth or Co Meath beach.

Due to take place on the morning of Sunday September 9th, those who have done the event once often as part of a bucket list tell of an experience of inspiring stories, camaraderie and great fun. In one word the most common description used is that of “empowering”.

Ladies can this still register for the Dip which is free do so for another two weeks with the cut off point for completed registration forms extended to August 30th.

Since founded in 2009 by Máire Garvey, ‘Dip in the Nip’, whose tagline is ‘ Dare to Bare to Fight Cancer’ has raised thousands of euros for cancer charities all over Ireland. For the Chief Dipper she found the feedback from women everywhere was it provided a sense of joy and liberation, particularly for those with body image issues.

Drogheda woman Gay Woods described her experience of the Dip as “without a doubt, this has been the most amazing experience... The feeling of camaraderie with all the other women, the fun and the too many laughs to mention. The entire day is so memorable”.

One of the Dippers from who had had a double mastectomy, echoed the sentiments of many when she said, that after her first Dip, running naked into the sea had given her back her body, her self-confidence and her sexuality. Running naked into the sea seems to re-connect people with their bodies. It’s as though they fall in love with them, and re-discover just how beautiful those bodies are, regardless of size, shape or lumpy bits! It is such a simple act, that of immersing oneself in the waves, and yet it has powerful consequences for those who do it.

Organized by NECRET who support the Oncology Unit in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda fund activities that will improve the treatment and outcomes of people with cancer from across the North East including counties Louth, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and North Dublin.

For those who may be worried about the cold water of the Irish sea September always has the warmest water and this should be especially the case after the hottest of summers.

For those wishing to register and learn more about what happens on the day including the customary “Dutch Courage Champagne Reception” on arrival, Zumba dancing, the trip to beach by private coach, the Dip itself, NECRET Tree of Hope and the post Dip refreshments they can visit https://necret.ie/dipinthenip Alternatively, sign up packs can be obtained by emailing necret.info@gmail.com or by texting/ calling Ann on 086 7773294.

For ladies who are signing up by themselves…No one Dips alone. There is a way to get chatting to other Dippers either in the Westcourt Hotel Drogheda the night before the Dip which is lots of fun with drinks and finger food or on the morning of event.
