LATE summer evenings at Bellewstown Races on the Hill of Crockafatha are cherished by those who have enjoyed the experience, and if you have not done so yet you should get yourself racing up the hill on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th August for ‘Summer’s Last Hurrah!’ Soak up the last of what summer has to offer and spend an evening taking in the views to the sea, the colour, the style and the buzz of racing at Bellewstown.
Bellewstown Racecourse is beautifully situated with magnificent views of the mountains of Mourne to the north and the Irish Sea to the east. The tradition of summer racing dates back centuries and the first record of racing here appears in the August edition of the Dublin Gazette and the Weekly Courier in 1726.
This year racegoers can avail of some seriously good value by purchasing a Punters Package –‘ The Bellewstown Belter’ which includes Enclosure Admission, Free Pint, a €5 ‘Matched’ Bet and a Colour Racecard – all this for only €20!
Each evening why not live it up and avail of our hospitality offering in the comfort of our scenic marquee which consists of a delicious 3 course BBQ meal, tipster, racecard and post-race music and dancing from Drogheda’s finest band The Enemies. There will be top quality racing on both evenings with the focus on Wednesday 29th August on flat racing with our feature race sponsored by ‘ The Thatch’ pub having won the sweep on our very successful “Drogheda Traders Plate” feature race during our July Festival.
On Thursday 30th August the focus will switch to national hunt with the feature race that evening ‘ The Mullacurry Cup’ sponsored by Bar One Racing. First ran in the 1860s on a track located between Dunleer and Ardee the Mullacurry Cup found its new home in Bellewstown in 2005 after the cup was won by Pat Markey in 1938 with a horse called Clarristown and was donated to the Bellewstown track by his sons.
On Thursday 30th August Bellewstown Racecourse will also host the Top Flight Travel Best Dressed Competition, which will be judged by one of Ireland’s leading milliners, Suzanne Ryan.
There is a prize fund of over €3,000 for the competition with the Best Dressed Lady winning an exclusive 4 star holiday to Italy thanks to Topflight Travel, 2nd will collect a €250 voucher from Olive’s Boutique in Drogheda, 3rd an overnight stay with dinner bed & breakfast in the recently opened Village Hotel Bettystown, lastly a wonderful 4th prize of one year’s hair care from ‘Your Gorgeous Hair Salon’ Drogheda.
