St Mary’s parish to mark Pope’s visit

ST Mary’s Parish will celebrate the opening of the World Meeting of Families and the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland with a special evening on Tuesday August 21st.

The Holy Family Youth Group will perform their original drama ‘Pope Francis’ at Holy Family Church at 7pm, before a procession to St Mary’s Church will take place at 7.45pm.

Choirs from St Mary’s parish churches will be joined by singers from the Holy Family and Layton/Mornington parishes for Evening Prayer at 8.30pm. Refreshmen­ts will be served in St Mary’s Pastoral Centre at 9.15pm.

Parishione­rs from all neighbouri­ng parishes are invited to Drogheda on the night.

Slane walk

A group of friends from Slane are trekking from Carrick-on-Shannon to Slane later this month to raise money for the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre and S.O.S.A.D.

The 10-strong team who will walk from the Shannon to The Boyne are taking on the three day, 130km challenge on Friday, August 24th with Slane Tidy Towns also set to benefit from the proceeds.

Organised by Robbie Berrill and Brian Kelly, the group are still seeking sponsorshi­p for their efforts and have urged people to log onto their GoFundMe page and give what

The group want people to join them on the final leg of the journey on Sunday August 26th, from the Round O in Navan to final destinatio­n the Boyne Valley Inn. They will be stopping at Stackallen Tennis Club too where parents with kids can join in.
