Monknewtow­n Macra prove best

IN a triangular contest in the Clubrooms, Rossin, on Friday night last, Monknewtow­n Branch Macra na Feirme came out on top when they scored 63 marks against 50 marks for Stackallen Branch and 49 marks for Kells in the Macra na Feirme Question Time Competitio­n.

The best individual­s were Miss Mary Murray, Kells, with 18 marks and Mr. Thomas Lane, Monknewtow­n, who scored 17 marks.

The teams were MONKNEWTOW­N— Messrs. Thomas Stewart, Ted Russell, Dick Cheevers, Hugh Russell and Thomas Lane. STACKALLEN—Messrs. Thomas Leonard, Fintan Mongey, Angela Mongey, Noel Curtis, and Michael McBride; KELLS—Misses Catherine Lee and Mary Murray, Messrs. Jim Newman, Rex Lee and Michael Geraghty.

The Question Master was Mr. Eamonn McCullough, Secretary, Meath Co. Executive, Macra na Feirme and the Scorekeepe­r was Mr. Sean Lynch.

Mr. Ted Russell, Monknewtow­n, thanked all for their attendance and apologised for the fact that the Debate, in which Monknewtow­n were to have opposed the Drogheda Branch could not be held due to to the illness of one of the former side.

The Debate has now been arranged for the same venue on to-morrow (Friday) when the home side will speak for the motion “That Politics are for Old Men.”
