PREVIEWS: CTI Business Solutions IFC Quarter-finals
Mattock Rangers v Oliver Plunketts SATURDAY 5.30 GAELIC GROUNDS
AFTER topping a group containing Cooley Kickhams, Oliver Plunketts would have been entitled to an easier quarter-final tie than this, but they’ll go into it feeling like they have nothing to lose. All the expectation and pressure is on Mattock, which makes a tricky assignment even more of a banana skin. That said, their class and knowhow should shine through in the end. Verdict: Mattock Rangers
St Bride’s v St Mochta’s SUNDAY 3.00 DOWDALLSHILL
HAVING topped the group of death St Bride’s will be warm favourites to topple their neighbours, but this one could be a lot closer than people think. St Mochta’s condemned Hunterstown to a relegation playoff last time out and boast a number of very dangerous forwards. However, Division 1 experience should stand to the Bride’s and they get a tentative nod. Verdict: St Bride’s
St Kevin’s v St Fechin’s SATURDAY 7.00 GAELIC GROUNDS
THERE’S a general consensus that St Fechin’s have underachievied since losing the 2014 IFC final to Sean O’Mahony’s, but they topped a really tough group en route to the last eight and are definitely contenders again. Avoiding a relegation battle for a second successive year was a bonus for Kevin’s and this might be a bridge too far.
Verdict: St Fechin’s
Cooley Kickhams v Naomh Fionnbarra SUNDAY 4.30 DOWDALLSHILL
OF the four quarter-finals this is possibly the one most likely to produce an upset as a high-flying Finnbarrs outfit look to build on last year’s semi-final appearance. Cooley have to improve on a dismal display against Oliver Plunketts last time out and if they do this could be a thriller. It could go either way, but Finbarrs may just nick it. Verdict: Naomh Fionnbarra
