SENESCHALSTOWN TRIM 3-10 1-10

SENESCHALSTOWN’S ability to convert their goal chances proved crucial in this clash of the Division 1 and 2 league champions in the opening round of the MFC at Trim.

A brace of goals from Tom Barron and a great Jamie Kirwan strike proved pivotal, while at the other end Trim were unable to carve out clear-cut chances, thanks largely to some excellent defending by the visitors.

After getting off to a bright start, during which Tom Barron flicked in the first of his goals, Seneschalstown led 1-4 to 0-1 by the 12th minute despite playing into a stiff breeze. In this spell Sean and Donal Commons along with Joe Moore raised white flags.

Trim then came storming back into the game, and playing some enterprising football they hit a goal and six points in a row as they began to dominate.

However, Barron again came to his side’s rescue with his second goal and at half-time the sides were level - 2-5 to 1-8.

Trim edged ahead at the start of the second half before Jeaic Timmons surged forward from centre back to point.

Ross Mullen regained the lead for the Yellow Furze men and Jamie Kirwan then gave his side some breathing space with a powerful shot to the net.

Seneschalstown were never headed after that and extended their lead to six points by the full-time whistle.
