THE winning team in the Fred Hoey Memorial Championsh­ip were Pat Mallon and Martin Flood with a score of 102 1/8, with the runners-up Marie Black and Leo Gibney with 105 3/8.

Congrats to our member Sean Clerkin who was part of the winning team at the Leinster Inter-County Championsh­ips at the Lucan club.

CLOVERHILL

WITH all eyes on the Captain’s Prize numbers were well down in the v Par weekend competitio­n but that did not deter young Lorcan Rafferty (9) as his rich vein of form continued and in the space of a couple of competitio­ns he is now down to a handicap of 8. Three 2’s at holes 7, 9 &14 helped Lorcan return an 8 up score to win the competitio­n. A countback was needed to confirm Dubliner Clive Whelan (20) as runner -up from David Rafferty (19) after both finished on 6 up two clear of David Pilkington (2).

This week is the highlight of the year for Club Captain Patrick Malone as he hosts his prize giving week. The Seniors will be the first on the tee on Thursday morning at 10am followed by the ladies with juveniles and visitors in action on Saturday. The men will get under way on Sunday morning from 7 am all with high hopes of qualifying for the third 9 holes which will determine who is the big winner on the day. The top 10 players plus ties qualify for the the play off holes which will be Holes 10-11-12-16-17-18-1-6-7. The highlight of the club year will still carry all the hype with the betting and qualifiers picks all asdding to the occasion. 3 Ball timesheet will be available on Wednesday night so anyone who wants to alter their selected time slot may do so befoire Wednesday evening as once the draw is posted there will be no changes to it. To facilitate the smooth running of Captain’s Day please arrive well before your tee-off time and following the parking instructio­ns of Charlie.

The BC ELECTRICS, Dundalk sponsored Friday Open is down to the last week for the month of August this coming Friday with Greenore’s Justin Reel leading the way for top visitor €100 monthly bonus with 38 points. Friday Open Entry is Members £7 & Visitors £12 which includes 2’s.

The final week’s play off the Front 9 Green Markers took place on Wednesday and produced some terrific scores as members pushed for a place in the final. With Pete McCreesh, Graham Johnston, Martin Gill and Peter Byrne all safely through as the previous four weekly winners the last weekly winner and the sectional winner was up for grabs on Wednesday night. Daniel Hughes set the early pace with a 22 point return but was then headed by a previous qualifier Benny Tierney by a point. Fintan McAleenan then swept into the lead with 24 points but in turn was denied a final berth as Niall McDonnell (12) birdied the two par 5’s to finish with 25 points and gain a place in the final. Noel Magill held on as sectional winner with 62 points for his best 3 cards which was 2 ahead of Daniel Hughes and Noel progresses to the Byrne Monumental sponsored Wednesday Cup Final

Cloverhill will be hosting their inaugural Intermedia­te and Minor Scratch Cups on Sunday Sept 9. The Cups shall be known as the Muldoon Scratch Cups as they are being sponsored by club member Tom who owns the award winning Muldoon’s, Bar, Restaurant & Nite Club, Ardee, Co Louth.

The Intermedia­te Scratch Cup Handicaps (10-18) and Minor Scratch Cup Handicaps (19-28) have a €15 entry for Members & €20 for Visitors which includes food after your round. Gross Winners -Cup plus €150 R-up€100 Nett Winners- €80 R-up-€60
