VILLAGE HOTEL

This wonderful venue is up and running again. A visit to the premises proves to be delightful and I’m sure it will be once again the mecca for many visiting the area in the years to come. Many people in East Meath and the Drogheda area can remember having wonderful weddings in the Village; it’s fantastic to see it coming to live again. Best wishes to the new owners. You can see their website at www.villagehotel. ie or ring 041 9887766 for bookings. such as the three-acre “race field” which has a panoramic view of the racing. Everyone can enjoy these facilities which include a parade ring, Judges box, bookies stands, tote, grandstand (temporary), restaurants, ambulance room. Marquees will sprout to facilitate one who may be partial to a pint of plain, and of course no one will be short of a short if one has that preference. Other services will also be available such as the Gardai, doctors, veterinary officers, caterers, civil defence, electricians, plumbers etc.

To put the icing on the cake if we can encourage King Sol to show his face it would be a big bonus, and if he doesn’t it’s not the end of the world. Considering the atmosphere of this unique event is enhanced by the wonderful scenery such as the mountains of Mourne, the Rockabill, Ben Head and the Irish Sea, apart from the miles of golden sands which travel from Mornington to Laytown, who is going to be worried by a drop of moisture.

Please note that a book is being launched which chronicles the history of the Laytown races, this is an account of the history of the races from its inception to the present day. The price of €20 works out at approx. fourteen cents per year. I’m sure it will be on sale at the races.
