Road repairs return on the Platin Road

-

COUNCILLOR Paul Bell has welcomed the recommencement of long awaited roadworks on Platin Road, Duleek Street and Mary Street roadwork which were interrupted due to events leading up to and during Drogheda’s Fleadh Cheol na hEireann.

The road which has been deteriorating very severely over the past 18 months was on the Council list to be completed by mid August, Unfortunately this was not to be.

“The road surface has fractured and potholed in almost every section of Duleek Street and in some parts of Mary Street.

‘ The route has high volumes of HGV traffic the volume of which has accelerated the deterioration of the roadway.

‘ The roadworks will take three weeks to compIete and due to school traffic in the area will not commence until after 9am each day. I can also report that traffic disruption will unfortunately be a feature in the area while works are ongoing and should be where possible be avoided,’ said Bell

He says HGV traffic on route to and from Irish Cement Platin Works to Drogheda Port will divert to Donore Road for the period of the works. Other HGV traffic will also use this route for the period of the works.

‘ This work is necessary and will of value to residents living along the route whom are experiencing noise and vibration from vehicles striking the many potholes dotted on the road,’ he added.
