SISTER GERALDINE SERVED IN AFRICA

SISTER Geraldine McChrystal was born Ellen McChrystal in Derry in 1927.

She worked in a sewing machine factory before joining MMM in 1953. After profession she worked in the laundry in Drogheda for 6 years and then trained as a nurse-midwife.

In 1966, she was assigned to Tanzania, where she served for 20 years.

She worked there as a nurse and hospital matron and in pastoral care. Sr. Geraldine also did mission awareness work in the USA for 3 years.

She returned to Ireland in 2002. As well as helping in the Motherhous­e, Sr. Geraldine did pastoral care in Aras Mhuire.

In 2010 she moved to Aras Mhuire for nursing care. She died there peacefully on 22 August 2018.
