Friends of Collon church host garden party for repairs
FRIENDS of Collon Church are holding a fund-raising garden party at Collon House on Saturday 1st September 2018, 2-5pm.
The main purpose of the event is to raise funds to help save the historic Church of lreland building in Collon. The stunning plasterwork ceiling is threatened by
water leaking in from the outer roof. Approximately €150,000 is needed to re-slate the outer roof to make the building weather-tight.
At the garden party the Lourdes Brass band will play, there will be cake, books and souvenirs on sale.
There will also be a guided village walk and local historian John Rountree will conduct a tour of the Church building. Children’s activities are planned, including face painting.
Adult admission, including refreshments is €1-5, children free.

Drogheda meeting
The question of Drogheda City Status and the Governent’s 2040 plan will be discussed at a public meeting on Wednesday 29 August in The Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda, at 7.30pm where interested parties and stakeholders will engage in a panel discussion followed by a Q&A session.
Entitled ‘Drogheda’s Journey on the 2040 Plan’, organisers feel that the town is being left out of major national funding without a ‘city’ title. ‘Drogheda is Ireland’s largest town, yet is being treated like a village,’ claimed Mayor Frank Godfrey.
‘We need to achieve city status so as to access funding that we would be entitled to and which could transform the town in many ways, from increased investment to cultural activities,’ he continued. ‘We must stand up and fight for the town – or city – and attract future investment and jobs.’
Members of the public are invited to attend this meeting which will focus on the future of Drogheda.
