Steam train run from Drogheda to Skerries

THE annual steam train excursions from Drogheda Rail Station to Dundalk and Skerries, which was cancelled in July, will now go ahead on Sunday September 16th .Tickets are on sale from Drogheda Tourist Office in the Tholsel, West Street costing €14 for adults and €8 for under 16’s.

These trips have proved to be very popular and are sold out each year.

The trains are pulled by vintage steam engines and have both bar and snack cars.

Lourdes Pilgrimage

Land of Legends run

The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre Land of Legends 8K takes place in the picturesqu­e village of Clogherhea­d on September 2. The course incorporat­es the beach, headland, farmlands, harbour and pier.

You can run, jog, walk or crawl the 8km route to become a Legend! While on route you will encounter natural and man-made obstacles. The 27th Infantry Battalion will put you through your paces on the beach (no mercy shown here) followed by the Farmer’s Pyramids – dizzy heights. Yes, there is a swamp, water and muck in abundance. AND - the Piece de Resistance – the Harbour challenge.

It all starts at 11am and there’s Chip Timing on the day. The first 300 registered will be guaranteed a top quality technical t-shirt.

Top darts men in action

GARY Anderson and Phil ‘ The Power’ Taylor are coming to the TLT for a night of darting delight on Monday September 17th.

The best dart player ever to grace the planet and 16 time World Darts Champion Phil “The Power” Taylor and 2 time World champion Gary ” The flying Scotsman” Anderson will appear for an evening of darts and Q and A.

On the night Phil and Gary will play some local players and what is a fantastic opportunit­y to take on the two champions.

Phil , who in his retirement year, has won everything in the game and has even famously hit 2 nine darters in one match in the premier league final.

Gary who along with his own back to back 2 world titles is also referred to the peoples champion and is very popular all of the world. The two famously clashed in the World Championsh­ip final in 2015 with Anderson coming out on top, winning the final set.

Drifters return

The Drifters return with a brand-new show performing all their classics from the last six decades. The legendary group have been inducted into the Rock & Roll of fame and are famed for such numbers as Saturday Night At Movies’, Your More Than A Number and Come on Over to My Place. They are in town on October 13 at the TLT.

Irish wind orchestra

Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra returns to the Irish stage for their first performanc­e at Drogheda’s TLT Theatre on September 16.

This 80+ peice wind band represents the best of Irish wind bands at home and abroad.

Charity partners: Abacus School for Children with Autism Drogheda & The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre. Tickets are €20 from the TLT.

Taste of Togher

The Taste of Togher is back at The Glyde Inn, Annagassan on Saturday 22nd September from 12pm

No booking required and admission is free.

The fishing village hosts its seventh annual Taste of Togher Food Festival (www.tasteoftog­her. and there is a wide range of local products and produce to try.
