Furze can breathe easy after four-goal bonanza

-

Sen’chalst’n 4-12 Blackhall G 0-7

SENESCHALSTOWN turned on the power in the second half to secure their SFC status and condemn Blackhall to the relegation dogfight at Dunshaughlin on Friday evening.

The eventual winners only led 1-6 to 0-5 at the break but were out of reach within two minutes of the restart following a brace of goals.

Half-time substitute Dylan Keating made an instant impact with the first of those goals and Joe Sheridan then finished another move to the net to ease his side’s relegation fears.

There was no way back for Blackhall after that and they go into the relegation play-off without a single point, having lost all of their five matches.

Blackhall led on three different occasions in the opening half, but Seneschalstown were never headed after Stephen Finnegan and Sean Noonan combined to set up Niall Hickey for the opening goal near the end of the first quarter.

That left Seneschalstown, who lost Cathal Finnegan to injury, leading 1-3 to 0-3, and they enjoyed a four-point interval advantage following scores late in the half from Stephen Finnegan, Joe Sheridan and Niall McCabe.

Brian Sheridan added to Seneschalstown’s tally with a brace of points early in the second half.

Robert Wogan also contributed handsomely to his side’s win, scoring three points after being introduced as a second half sub. He also provided the final pass for Seneschalstown’s fourth goal, scored by Joe Sheridan three minutes from the finish. SENESCHALSTOWN: David Gordon; Mark Fox, Andrew Collins, Brian Maguire; Niall McCabe 0-1, Joe Cowley, Cormac Duffy; Brian Sheridan 0-2f, Stephen Finnegan 0-1; Alan Mulvany, Sean Noonan 0-1, Niall Hickey 1-0; Cathal Finnegan 0-1f, Joe Sheridan 2-2, Dylan Doyle 0-1.
