Lucy star for St Peter’s

-

LUCY Brennan emerged as the star performer for the St Peter’s club as the curtain came down on the Louth Track & Field season with the annual Ardee Sports Day at the school field.

Lucy moved up age to compete and indeed win the Girls Under-14 Long Jump with a leap of 4.36m, having earlier won bronze in the Under-13 100m sprint.

The day started off with Niamh Allen running strongly in the Girls Under-9 sprint, narrowly missing out on a medal in the final.

The ever-present O’Reilly twins both qualified for the final of the 60m sprint in the Under-10 age group and were unlucky also not to medal in the 200m, where a longer race would have suited both of them better.

Orla McLougjlin ran really bravely in the Under-11 Girls 600m and could have a good cross-country season a head of her, while she also had a decent Long Jump performance, moving up to Under-12 and finishing fourth with a leap of 3.54m.

Dearbhla Allen had a very strong run in the Girls Under-12 800m race where she got into a battle at the front from the gun in what was a very competitive race. She ran strongly right up to the line and was rewarded for her efforts with a silver medal.

In the Boys Under-12 800m race Harry O’Reilly and Ben McKeown both ran very bravely to finish second and third respectively - this after Harry had collected a bronze medal earlier in the Under-12 Boys sprint.

Conor Litchfield made his return to competition in both the Boys U-13 800m and 100m sprint as well as the U-13 Shot Putt, doing well in all three events.

The Under-14 800m finished with two St Peter’s boys on the podium, with Mark Litchfield in second and Sean Allen third.

Indeed, both boys found themselves on the podium twice during the day as Mark won bronze in the U-14 100m sprint and Sean achieved a similar result in the U-14 long jump.

Entries are still coming in thick and fast for the Dromiskin 5K which will take place around the roads of the Dromiskin village on Saturday September 8th at 7pm.

This year looks like it will be the biggest and best yet and athletes can enter via the club website or the Dromiskin 5K Facebook page.
