GREENORE LADIES

WINNER of last Thursday’s Open Singles SF was Mary McEnaney (Rossmore GC) with 37pts. Runner-Up was Noreen Crichton 34 pts.

Lady President Ann Davey’s prize staged on Saturday saw some excellent scoring. Antoinette Shields won with a fine score of 72 nett. She was closely followed by Runner-Up Catherine Woods on 73 nett while the Gross prize went to Seana McGuinness with 87 grs. Remaining results as follows:

Cat A: Aideen McGahon 74 ALL-IRELAND glory proved a bridge too far for County Louth as they had to accept second prize at the Girls Interclub Championship Final played last Thursday.

The team of Kate Dwyer, Emily Murray and Catherine Gray - managed by Deirdre Gray - qualified for the last four by capturing the Leinster Pennant recently and spirits were high in the camp ahead as they joined the other provincial winners in Knock Golf Club.

County Louth were drawn against County Sligo in the semi-finals and first blood went to the Baltray girls as Kate Dwyer defeated Maebh McLoughlin by one hole in the top match.

The team from the west won the second match, but Emily Murray held her nerve to defeat Ruth Flanagan 4&3 and that put County Louth into the All-Ireland final against Rory McIlroy’s home club Holywood who had overcome Killarney in the other semi.

Dwyer was all square with Olivia McCrystal after six holes but eventually lost 4&3, and when Heidi McMillen edged out Murray 2&1 the National Pennant was safe in the hands of Holywood.

Meanwhile, current Irish Under-16 Boys champion Dylan Keating of Seapoint has been named in the six-strong Irish team for the Italian International Under-16 Championship which takes place at Biella next week. Rory McIlroy won the European Amateur Championship on that course back in 2006.
