Frank Dunne fought in Flanders and Dardenelle­s

MR. Frank Dunne, 79 Chord Road, Drogheda, whose death occurred recently in the local Cottage Hospital, was a native of Bridgetown, Co. Wexford, where he was born in 1884, being the third son of Sergeant Thomas Dunne, R.l.C. and Mrs. Ann Dunne, Bridgetown.

In September, 1914 Frank Dunne joined the British Army at Aldershot, being attached to the Third Hussars, Irish Fusiliers.

He fought in the Dardenelle­s and at Flanders and on his return from France he married Alice Dennis, a daughter of Frank Dennis, a former Mayor of Drogheda. She predecease­d her husband six years ago.

After his service in France, Frank Dunne was drafted into the 58th Batt. of the North Cumberland Fusiliers and serviced in Malta, Donegal, Belfast, Newry and Drogheda where, in 1921 he received his honourable discharge from the Army.

He then became a builders’ labourer with the late Leo McCann, Fair Street, where he was employed for almost half a century.

The late Mr. Dunne is survived by his daughter, Mrs. M. Owens, 36 Ascal a Do, Yellowbatt­er, Drogheda, a sister, Mrs. Lil Healy, USA.
