Lifestyle camp

-

IF you were shopping in Droghcda around 10.30am in the wet conditions of last Friday morning - you probably didn’t realise that an extremely enthusiastic and loud chorus of 30 plus 1st class children were gathered at the open doors of the Holy Family Boxing Club in Ballsgrove singing the ‘Hill and Gully’ song at the top of their voices.

The reason being was to send ‘notes of encouragement’ to the shoppers in the town.

On the final morning of the four week long Lifestyle Development Group Summer Project excitement was the by-word. Children ranging in age from five to eight circled the hall in many disguises.

There were plenty of batmen, princesses and clowns and one little chap opted to go down on all fours, just in case one was in any doubt that he was disguised as ‘a dog”.

Since the Lifestyle Development Group was first established in 1991 -to help women in the Holy Family Parish who are at home with children re-enter the education system - it has certainly proved to be an invaluable service.

The summer camp which takes place over the four weeks of July caters for 5th and 6th classes on the first week; 3rd and 4th classes, second week; 2nd class, third week; and 1st class, final week.

Kieran Gallagher, a member of Ceol Batacuda, was equipped with a tambourine and he had the full attention of his young audience who were intent on following his instructions to a T”.
