BROOMFIELD BONUS BALL LOTTERY RESULTS

Draw Date: 22/08/2018

STAMULLEN TOUR.

During the recent Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda, Community Historian Brendan Matthews, took a buss load of visitors from Drogheda to visit the medieval Cadaver Tombstone and Double-Effigial Tombstone in the ruins of St. Christopher`s Chapel in Stamullen village.

The tour then moved to the Seamus Ennis Centre at Naul village where the visitors were treated to some lovely tea and scones and where they were also entertained by an excellent Uilleann Piper. Director at the Centre, Deirdre Roche, told them about the life & times of Seamus Ennis, while Brendan Matthews talked about other local pipers and fiddle-players who resided in the area of Fingal and east Meath during the later 19th & 20th centuries.

The group also paid a visit to the grave of Seamus Ennis before mving on to their last stop of the day, the magnificent fivethousand-year-old Passage Tomb Cemetery at Fourknocks where the people present were informed of the archaeology of the complex, along with the significance and importance of this Neolithic monument.

The visit to the Fourkncks was made all the more interesting as one of the individuals on the tour was none other than Brenda Hartnett, daughter of the late P.J. Hartnett, the archaeologist who had actually excavated the tomb back in 1950-52; the first Passage Tomb in Ireland to have been archaeologically excavated.

The tour, which had to be prebooked through the Fleadh Office or website, included people from across Ireland, England and the United States.
