Ramps in need of repair

-

LOUTH County Council has been criticised for their failure to refurbish the existing speed ramps on the Ballsgrove estate having committed monies for this purpose earlier in the year at his request.

The ramps (right) were installed in 2005 in response to a sustained campaign by Cllr Paul Bell and the Ballsgrove Residents Association.

‘ The structures have served their purpose and have suffered the normal wear and tear from vehicles hitting them and from frost damage. Following my representations Council agreed to assess the ramps and agreed that funding be made available for refurbishment in 2018. To date despite the budget having been approved no works have been actioned,’ the councillor stated this week.

Bell also noted that the residents of St Finian’s Park have been let down on commitments for road safety measures.

“Again monies have been earmarked under the housing budget for the urgent installation of speed ramps on two stretches of road within the estate where residents have been subjected to the effects of so called joyriding activities.

‘In recent weeks I have again confirmed with Louth County that monies approved for the installation of speed ramps is still available and I am satisfied that the funding is secure. However I have yet to receive a confirmed date for these urgent works to commence. I have sought a commitment that works will commence in September or October 2018.’
