Laurence Town Centre team in 8-8 thriller!

-

DEFENCES were definitely NOT on top at Marian Park for the annual Alzheimer Cup match.

The game between the Laurence Centre and Peaches United from Dublin ended in a competitive 8-8 draw before the Drogheda side edged through in a penalty shoot-out.

There were some excellent individual performances but this was all about team effort.

The players paid to take part and secured sponsorship to help swell the coffers of the Drogheda branch of the Alzheimer Society.

The branch is involved in major fund-raising to try to provide a new daycare centre to take the place of the temporary Tredagh Lodge premises.

Organiser, Barry Higgins said they were delighted to be able to help with the branch’s finances.

Ann Shortt of the local branch said they appreciated all the players’ involvement.

Ms Shortt said the Cup match had now become an important annual event which she hoped could continue.

She thanked all involved, singling out the players who had travelled from Dublin and elsewhere , as well as the Laurence Centre for its annual involvement.
