- By ALISON COMYN

THE Boyne Valley has notched up another top national award, coming runner-up to Kilkenny in the 2018 Foodie Destinations.

This is the second year running the region has been awarded the silver spot and reaffirms the Boyne Valley as one of the top foodie destinations not only in Ireland, but worldwide.

“We are absolutely delighted with the result”, Bronagh Conlon, Chairperson of Discover Boyne Valley Flavours told the Drogheda Independent.

“The standard of the competition keeps increasing every year, which is a wonderful thing to see, and it is fantastic we are still up there at the top. The passion our producers, event organisers and venues show for promoting local food, drink and experiences is abundant and we wouldn’t be here today without such commitment from everybody involved.”

Foodie Destinations is an initiative by the Restaurants Association of Ireland which celebrates Ireland’s unique and wonderful food offerings and encourages local food tourism initiatives across the country.

“The 2018 Boyne Valley Food Series is a year-long series of experience lead events that celebrate the land, the heritage, the people and the produce of the region,” adds Bronagh, whose Listoke 1777 Premium Irish Gin recently became the first Irish gin to win a “Master of Gin” award by the international “Spirits Business”, the highest international accolade any gin can achieve.

“From food festivals and harvest walks, to street feasts and food adventures, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Events are scheduled to run right up until December.”
