LUMPER’S SOCIETY

THE society held a singles-stableford competition at Ardee Golf Club on Saturday, August 18th. This was the sixth and final qualifier for the Player of the Year Trophy, where the four golfers of Thomas Dullaghan, David Lambe, Alan Dullaghan and Peter Callan remained in contention for this much coveted prize.

A total of seventeen golfers teed off on a course that was presented in an excellent condition, where fast greens and testing pin positions made good scoring difficult to achieve. As a result, no one individual ran away with the competition and the when the scorecards were returned and checked, a bunched leader-board showed the top six golfers separated by three stableford points only. The winning score card was returned by the President, Liam Manning, who managed to separate himself from his playing partner, Peter Murtagh on the basis of a better back nine score.

In determining the final places in the Player of the Year Competition, Alan Dullaghan by securing fourth place at the outing, gained sufficient points to ensure he came out on top in the race to be Player of the Year for 2018.

At the presentation of prizes in the Clubhouse, Captain, Donal O’Hagan thanked the committee and members of Ardee for the use of their facilities and he also thanked the caterer for providing a delicious meal. Donal congratulated the prize winners and he thanked member Peter Callan, for his generosity in sponsoring the prizes.

The outing prize winners were as follows: 1st Liam Manning, 2nd Peter Murtagh, 3rd Malachy Duffy, Longest Drive Peter Murtagh, Nearest the Pin Alan Dullaghan.

The final of the Matchplay competition will see captain, Donal O’Hagan play Thomas Dullaghan and this match is due to take place before the society embark on their Golf Trip to Murcia on the first weekend in October, where 3 rounds of golf have been arranged at La Serena, Lo Romero and Roda Golf Courses.

MACBRIDE P&P

MACBRIDE club secretary Pádraic Sarsfield continued his fine form at the Louth Down Monaghan Matchplay Championship held in Channonrock on Saturday.

Having won his quarter-final match with a hole-in-one on the 18th, finishing 2up against Seapoint’s Paul Cooney, Pádraic went on to meet Mark Flynn from Cloghogue in the semi-final, where he won his match 4&3.

Pádraic’s opponent for the Gents Senior Final was Jim Judge, and the pair provided some excellent pitch & putt for the many spectators who stayed to watch the finals.

After 36 holes Pádraic and Jim were level and the two men made their way to the first tie hole. Despite chances for both players, the match went to the fourth tie hole, and it was Pádraic who won the title with a tense birdie putt.

Congratulations go to Pádraic on a well deserved win, and to both players on a great match.

Well done to all MacBride players who took part in the championship. As always, you do our club proud.
