Drogheda reawakened

-

They came in their droves from near and from far

to my hometown in Drogheda to visit the Fleadh.

Fiddle, flageolet and fine pipes, all fingered with fun,

the town reinvigorated by the old and the young.

The streets looked stunning their sublimity clear, transcendence attributable to each volunteer. West street awoke from recent years in the haze

with times reminiscent of her halcyon days.

Tholsel once again alert, as the tourists did flock

In public houses, renditions of ‘Under the Clock’.

The quays stirred from silence sun started to shine,

reflecting the memories of the old ‘Lady Boyne’.

Tremendous excitement brought back to youth her ascension redeemed by concertina and flute.

A renaissance a rebirth on the banks of the Boyne

revitalised and reawakened by traditional chime.
