That Dublin Road stink is still there!

-

Dear Sir,

I feel compelled to comment on Alison Comyn’s piece in last weeks paper on the issue of the bad smell in the vicinity of the extended Dublin Rd area and the letter on the subject to Fergus O Dowd.

Irish Water are being disingenuous when they say that on particular days when they checked, there was no odour. There are plenty of other days including during the past week when we are plagued with it.

It’s sporadic, possibly influenced by weather conditions and wind direction and whatever is going on at the plant. At its mildest it’s unpleasant and at its worst putrid as it invades our gardens and homes.

We have been wakened in the middle of the night by the presence of the smell coming in the window. This is worrying. It can last for a brief period or for hours and effects different areas at different times.

Despite the red herrings that abound as to other possible causes of the stench myself and many others are certain that the Water treatment plant is the source, as this exact odour is present at times at the perimeter of the plant.

If it’s was admitted that there is a problem we could be more hopeful of a solution. Surely with modern technology this is not impossible.

This is going on for years. What are Louth County Council doing about this.?

Considering that they have recently granted planning permission for a housing development right beside the water treatment plant I think the answer is nothing.

The issue of adequate funding and long term planning for the future of our drinking water and waste water treatment, needs to be placed high on the agenda of local and national government, for all our sakes.

It should not be ignored.

Yours, Noeleen Dunne.
