Collette’s goal to support, nurture and promote the finest talent in the North East
THERE’S no excuse for having cultural withdrawal symptoms post-Fleadh, as just in time, the Droichead Arts Centre has announced its stellar line-up for the Autumn/Winter Season.
There is something to suit all tastes, ages, and pockets, and Director Collette Farrell was keen to put her stamp on this year’s programme, and showcase their venue and versatility.
“Even though I’ve been here since January 2017, I began working on this programme in earnest in September of last year, and we are all keen to show the additional strands that the Droichead has established in recent years,” explains Collette who was Company Manager/Producer for Calipo Theatre and Picture Company since 2002, and also part of the programming team for Drogheda Arts Festival and managed the marketing of the festival up to 2015.
“I developed the novel idea of the Theatre Club based on a concept in the UK, and it has been amazing to see a small group of people passionate about drama, pitching in their opinions in a very informal setting, just like a book club.”
From the best in local visual artists to the ever popular Leanbh children’s festival, Collette wants to support, nurture and develop talent in the North East, and for people to know the arts centre is a place for everyone.
“We will have teams working again in the primary schools, showcasing storytelling, music and dance, as well as engaging with children as young as 0 to 12 months, and of course, the film school programme and Droichead Youth Theatre for 12-15-year olds,” says Collette.
“The spoken word is also something we want to promote, and will feature some amazing local talent, and we will build on the success of the Film Club, which has been growing in popularity for the past 25 years.” Of course Culture Night is another much loved annual event and will take place this year on Septmebr 21st.
