-

BOYNE Rovers continue their impressive run with a comfortable victory over St.Mochtas (6-1) in Leinster League Div 1A.

With both teams taking time to settle it was JJ.Collier who opened for Boyne. With the sides level at half time, Rovers stepped up a gear in the 2nd haLf and played lovely football with Brian McCole taking out defenders with plenty of pace.

Mark Briody bravely challenged with a header that set Rovers on their way. Alan Connor rifled in a shot that deflected over the keeper. Robbie Sweeney was rewarded for his efforts with a well taken goal. Brian McCole got in on the act as he beat the keeper from 25yds. John Donnelly curled a wonderful free kick from outside the box to finish off the rout. Another impressive display from Boyne as they continue their climb up the table.

Mullingar Ath 5

Boyne Rvs 2

Rovers made the long trip to Mullingar last Saturday and came away wondering how they lost for the sides were evenly matched at 2-2 with only ten minutes remaining. Five minutes into the match Mullingar were awarded a penalty but Rovers rallied with James Murphy latching onto a Niall Clinton pass.

Rovers began to stamp their authority with John Kermode rounding the defence to fire home. Martin Smith teased the opposition with telling runs down the wing.

Indeed he was unlucky not to score twice being denied by the keeper.

A mix up in the Boyne defence left Mullingar with an indirect free kick in front of goal and amid the mayhem Mullingar were level. Rovers came out the stronger in the second half with Martin Smith hitting the bar. Niall Clinton, Robbie Bennett and James Murray controlled the centre with Anthony McEntaggart working hard. But with ten minutes left Rovers were caught out on the break as Mullingar went ahead. Rovers tried to rally but the game was killed off when they conceded another and the spirit was gone when Mullingar hit five.
