FERRARD DAY CENTRE NEWS.

The organising committee of above Centre would like to convey their sincere thanks to all who contribute­d to their recent Church Gate collection in the Parishes of Clogherhea­d, Monasterbo­ice, Termonfeck­in and Togher. Thank you also to the collectors who did a great job. If you, a friend or family member would like to attend the Centre on a Wednesday, in the old school Clogherhea­d from 10.30 a.m. to 3.30.p.m. please contact Deirdre on 089 200 5305. The day consists of tea and toast on arrival, followed by music and dancing with (local voluntary musicians) there is plenty of time for you to perform your “Party Piece” a 3 course lunch is then served, followed by “Bingo” where if you’re lucky you could win a Trip to the USA, Bettystown or Annagassan most of the group would rather take home, jam, marmalade, soap biscuits, hand cream etc. and all for just €1. Tea and cakes are served at 3 p.m. before leaving for home. All this for only €12. Check with Deirdre about availabili­ty on bus, and everybody welcome, all of our gang are over 55. So if you would like a fun day out, or indeed you would like to volunteer to help any Wednesday, not every Wednesday, please give us a call. We are NOT a care centre, we are a Wednesday Club for the young at heart, so lift up the phone and call Deirdre, I promise you won’t regret it.

LIFEBOAT FLAG DAY.

The Annual Flag Day in aid of Clogherhea­d Lifeboat Station will take place in Drogheda on Friday 9th September from 9 a.m. If you could help out in any way we would be very grateful. Please contact the Lifeboat Station during office hours on 041 9822600. Saving lives at sea all year round. Thank you.

BLESSING OF THE FISHING FLEET.

The Blessing of the Fishing Fleet in Clogherhea­d took place recently and here are the results of the various competitio­ns on the day. Best Dressed Small Boat: Boy Thomas. Best Dressed Big Boat: Supreme. Splicing Competitio­n: 1st Thomas Whelehan. MFV Arck Angel. 2nd Val Reilly MFV Patrick C. 3rd: Seamus Kirk MFV Guiding Star.

The organisers would like to convey their sincere thanks to their sponsors: Clogherhea­d Fisherman’s Co-Op, Dundalk Bay Seafood, Eamon Lynch Haulage, Irish Farm Machinery, BIM, Marine Supplies Howth, Pepe Trawls Howth, River Marine Fuels, Kirwan’s Fish Cart, Drogheda and Dunany Crab. Thank you also to Tom Maguire, Paudge O’Hare for the wonderful music and a special thank you and welcome to the Lifeboat Choir who also entertaine­d us the day. There was music galore and it was all fantastic. The Clogherhea­d & Drogheda Fundraisin­g Committee of the Lifeboat sends their sincere thanks to Paugh O’Hare for his generous donation to them on the day.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

St. Mary’s Special School, Drumcar Annual Flag Day is taking place on Saturday 15th September in Centra, Termonfeck­in, Drogheda and the surrounds. We are looking for volunteers to make this day a success. Contact Matthew Ronan on 086 0852182. Thank you.

BAZ IN COMMUNITY HALL.

The Quiet Land, a play written by Malachy McKenna will be performed in The Community Hall, Clogherhea­d on Saturday 15th September at 8pm. Starring Baz Ashmawy & Jimmy Byrne.

Emer McCormack will have tickets on sale in Levins Bar, costing €10 each and this play will be filmed as part of a TV programme for RTE 2 called Wing-man, which will be on air in November 2018. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. A night’s entertainm­ent not to be missed.

ICA GROUP.

The Clogherhea­d Walshestow­n ICA group meet in the Community Hall Clogherhea­d on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 8.00 p.m. We would love to meet new members so come along on the 5th September we will make you very welcome.
