AUTUMN SCENE

Children returning to school, sunlight fading in the mornings and evenings, leaves starting to wither and fall, shops filling up their shelves with Halloween paraphernalia, along with Christmas advertising and marketing.

The autumn period is truly upon us. Amidst all of this `commercial activity` that envelopes us from season to season, the stunning, natural beauty of the rural landscape at this particular time of year is breathtaking. The array of wonderful colours in hedgerows, trees, harvested and freshly-ploughed fields, pasture-land with flocks of sheep in lamb; the sights and sounds of wild animals and birds. This is a great time to take a stroll across the rural countryside, good for both mind and body and, leave the ear-phones and other technological gadgets at home, so that you can enjoy the surrounding landscape even better. Sea-field in Laytown, St. Patrick`s Football Club Stamullen played St. Mary`s in a challenge match. With only five-minutes left in the game, the `Pat`s` were leading 1.1 to 0.3 when a free-kick was awarded to St. Mary`s. The men of Stamullen objected to this freekick being awarded and refused point-blank to allow St. Mary`s take it, leaving the referee, Mr. Paddy Martin of Drogheda, with no option but to call off the match and awarding victory to the men of St. Mary`s.
