Open Gate for the summer

St Laurence’s Gate should be open at weekends for the summer months from May – September on a permanent basis, Drogheda’s Mayor Frank Godfrey has suggested.

‘It is apparent that people want to go up on Laurence Gate as it’s always booked out when it opens for special events, such as the Fleadh,’ he said.

‘It should be open on a regular basis. We should plan now to have it open and carry out any Health & Safety works immediately.

‘It’s the people’s Gate and it has been shamefully neglected for decades. It would be a great boost for tourism to have it open. ‘
