McDonnell family began the Valley Inn success story

-

IT WAS interesting to read up on the history of the ‘Valley Inn’ in Mullary recently.

Going back over half a century, the pub had just undergone a makeover and at that time Peter Finegan and sons of Mullary and Cross St., Dundalk, had built up an enviable reputation for itself in the bar and grocery trade, and had the benefit of many years of experience behind it.

At the time, the business was carried on at Mullary by Messrs. Raymond and John Finegan. Their father, Mr. Peter Finegan, started business in Cormeen, Moynalty, in 1921.

He came to Mullary in 1947 and bought the business premises which had been carried on by the McDonnell family since 1880.

Mr. Finegan’s died in 1956 and his sons carried on the trade.

Mr. Brian Hoey, Drogheda, was responsible for the new design at that time.
