What about a new name for East Coast town?

-

A MOST interesting point raised by the chairman of Meath County Council Tom Kelly at last week’s area meeting in Duleek.

Donacarney/Mornington/ Bettystown and Laytown is now regarded as a town under the last census.

The population is 11,872. The thing is when they are making an application for ‘ town’ planning, they have to include the entire title - a big longer than Drogheda, Dundalk or Navan!

So, Cllr Kelly suggested renaming the district with one name.

‘Best of luck with the public consultation with that one!,’ Cllr Wayne Harding remarked.

Director of Services Fiona Lawless felt that the cost of such a proposal would be prohibitive .

‘ The cost of new signage would be significant,’ she stated.

If it did happen, what new name could Donacarney/Mornington/Laytown/Bettystown adopt.

Maybe ‘ Townville - population 11,872’ - incorporating the four areas.

?? ?? Well done to local man Anthony Murphy who appeared on TV recently with none other than Tony Robinson - he of Time Team fame from years gone by. Anthony’s discovery close to Newgrange during the summer sparked international interest and of course, Tony wanted to hear from him too.
