Louth GAA moving to Dundalk is a blow to local supporters

-

Dear Sir,

IT is a huge morale blow dealt to local GAA followers and indeed the town, with the decision by Louth GAA to move the County Grounds from Drogheda to Dundalk.

The finest site, in my opinion, is on the Northern Cross Route at Killineer Roundabout.

There are 728 acres on the Cross Route with any amount of land for a state of the art County Ground. It is adjacent to the current O’Raghallaigh’s ground.

A portion of the 728 acres on the cross route will obviously never be developed.

It would be ‘ the icing on the cake’ for the town and in particular GAA supporters locally , following Drogheda Utd’s decision to build their new stadium on the cross route, for the GAA also to build here.

It is therefore essential, in the light of the decision by the GAA, for Drogheda councillors to ensure the massive sports facilities promised on the cross route, is prioritised and delivered as soon as possible,

Yours, Cllr Tommy Byrne
