Gers break Kilkerley hearts for second time

-

GERALDINES KILKERLEY EMMETS 3-7 0-6

GERALDINES broke Kilkerley for a second time on Friday night with a commanding display in the SFC play-off in Darver.

The Gers had already denied Emmets a place in Division 1 with league play-off win and they repeated the trick to consign their opponents to intermediate football on both fronts next season.

The Gers were never headed as they plundered first-half goals from Gareth Neacy and Conor Rafferty and a Jim McEneaney strike early in the second-half made the game, and their senior status safe.

Glen Trainor and Tadhg McEnaney traded early frees, but Neacy netted the first goal to give the Gers the edge.

The stretched their lead with points from Matt Corcoran and Rafferty, before the latter bagged goal number two.

McEneaney followed up with a free to make it 2-4 to 0-2.

Emmets managed to pull two points back before the break through James Fegan and Shaun McElroy, but they found themselves chasing a nine-point deficit when McEneaney netted the Gers’ third goal after the restart.

The game was up for Emmets at that stage and the rest of the second period was something of a non-event as the Gers comfortably held on to their senior status.
