O Broin blitz proves a big hit with clubs

-

TERMONFECKIN was the venue on Saturday afternoon for the Louth U12 O Broin Shield Hurling Blitz. The four teams taking part were St Kevins/Mattock/Glen Emmets, Naomh Moninne, St Fechins and Knockbridge who competed in a round robin format of games with the top two teams qualifying for the ‘A’ Shield Final and 3rd and 4th taking part in the ‘B’ Shield Final.

The combination side who were holders of the ‘A’ title again qualified for that final winning two and drawing one of their games, the latter an exciting 0-3 to 0-3 draw against Naomh Moninne in round one.

Needing only a draw in their third group game the Dundalk side suffered a heart breaking one point defeat to host St Fechins to miss out on a place in the ‘A’ final.

In the ‘A’ final the combination side led St Fechins by 2-1 to 0-1 at the break before coming through a tight second half to win by 2-2 to 0-2 to take the title. Naomh Moninne captured the ‘B’ Shield thanks to a 1-4 to 0-0 victory over Knockbridge in that final.
