‘Well are ‘found’ out as 10-man Trim win

NEWFOUNDWELL TRIM CELTIC 1 2

ANY lingering hope of Newfoundwell making a successful defence of their Premier title was extinguished when they made it three defeats from five games at home to 10-man Trim Celtic on Sunday.

Ray Mills’ side looked to be well on their way to an important victory at DIFE when Trim - already trailing 1-0 - had a man sent off for a second bookable offence early in the second half.

However, the Meath club responded impressively as they rolled up their sleeves and made light of their numerical disadvantage to score twice and eventually condemn the ‘Well to an unlikely defeat.

The Drogheda side’s goal came around the 25-minute mark when Dean Carolan curled a low free kick just inside the post, beating the substitute Trim keeper who had only come on moments earlier for his injured colleague.

However, several chances to extend that lead weren’t taken as the ‘Well forwards over-complicated their attacks and took wrong options, and they weren’t helped when Brandon Sullivan had to be replaced and substitute forward Emmanuel Santos also suffered an injury and had to come off.

Trim changed their formation at the interval and began to cause their hosts a few problems, only to have their right-back red-carded for one illegal challenge too many.

The extra man should have given the ‘Well confidence to go on and win comfortably, but instead the away side equalised mid-way through the second half and grabbed what turned out to be the winner five minutes from the end.

NEWFOUNDWELL: Ronan Brown, Gaz Smith, Stephen Murphy, Paddy O’Boyle, Daryl McDonagh, Ryan Connor, Dean Carolan, Brandon Sullivan (Emmanuel Santos, Eoin Mulroy), Craig O’Connor, Shaun Bannon (Niall Murtagh), Adam O’Connor.
