LUASCADH AN LÚ

Luascadh an Lú school of set dancing and sean nós dancing are back dancing for the new dance year.

They offer a wide variety of dance styles in a relaxed and enjoyable manner. The dancers had an amazing year last year with lots of involvement in the build up to and during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, which was so successfully held in our local town. Our class caters for all children from 4 years upwards. The school prides itself on being an inclusive dance school.

All classes are taught by three highly skilled and very experienced dance teachers. All classes are held in Tots and Co creche in Monasterboice. Tuesday from 6-7pm is an improvers and advanced class for ages 7-13 years. Tuesday from 7-8pm is an advanced set dancing class for ages 12 and up. Thursday: 6-7pm is the beginner class for children from 4 years and up. Thursday 7-7.30pm is a Sean Nós specific class.

There are spaces in all the classes for new comers.

ICA.

The local guild of the ICA are in the latter stages of planning a day trip to Carlingford on Thursday week, Sept 27th. Whats involved?, I hear you ask. The journey, on a luxury coach, the consumption of tea, coffee and scones, a tour around the beautiful village, a trip around, via The Ferry, Mourne and Newry area and a four course meal served up, is the answer.

TEACH RAITHNEACH & SANDPIT SET DANCERS

Set Dancing Classes at Teach Raithneach, Starinagh, Collon, resume on Mon. 17th Sept., and in Sandpit Hall, Termonfeckin on Thur. 20th Sept. Classes start at 8.30 pm and conclude at 10.30 pm, running weekly until the end of May 2019. Class Tutor is John Mc Evoy, who is well known in Set Dancing circles. There will also be an opportunity to do some Sean No’s Dancing during classes. Light refreshments served. You don’t need a partner to participate, and it’s never too late to begin. Age is no obstacle. The value and craic is ‘ar feabhas ar fad’!

THE 20K DROP.

When I tell you that The Mairtins are staging a 20k drop on Friday, September 28th, you’ve not being asked to go up a big mountain, just for someone to push you off it. No, it’s a huge fundraiser and a take from the TV programme, £1000,000 drop.

The show seems like a real entertainer and the club is still looking for sponsors, by way of advertisers. Further info can be obtained by contacting the organising committee or by visiting the €20 Drop website on www.

FERRARD DAY CENTRE.

If you, a friend or any member of your family would like to attend the Ferrard Day centre on Wednesdays (in the old school Clogherhead )from 10:30am to 3:30pm, please contact Deirdre on 089 200 5305

The day consists of tea and toast on arrival, followed by live music and dancing ( local voluntary musicians). There is plenty of time for you to perform your party piece, sing, recite etc. Dinner is served at 1 o’clock, then a few games of bingo with prizes of pots of marmalade etc. A cup of tea and a bun finishes the day at 3 o’clock . The cost of the day is €12. Check with Deirdre about availability on the bus. Everyone is welcome, most are over 55.

So if you would like a fun day out or indeed if you would like to volunteer for a couple of hours any Wednesday, please give the centre a call.

AMERICANS LOVE DRUMSHALLON

Incidently an American family from Virginia were treated to a wonderful nights entertainment at Drumshallon forge on Saturday week last, when the multi talented ‘Chapel Street Band’ from Slane treated the appreciative audience to a winning mix of comedy , music and song . They were joined on stage by some local acts including ‘ The Drumshallon singers’ who made their first public appearance on the night ...watch this space for future performances from this very talented bunch. Some poetry and a display of Irish dancing was also enjoyed by 89 year old Gordon and his family who said they would never forgot the welcome and hospitality shown them in Drumshallon on the night .

Of course the cup of tea for everyone in the audience plus an Array of beautiful cakes and confectionery baked by Jenny Thornton did nothing but enhance the evening.

Well done to one and all.
