METALLICA CONFIRMED FOR 2019 SLANE GIG

- By ALISON COMYN

At least two bucket lists will have large ticks on them next June 8th, as Metallica is set to rock the Boyne Valley to the core.

Lord Henry Mountcharles says he has always wanted the LA metal legends to play his back garden, and in turn, they have indicated in the past that Slane it is a venue they have long wished to include on their world tour.

“To welcome Metallica here has always been on my bucket list, and when I heard they really want to play here, I thought, ‘we really have to fit them in’. We only had one shot for them to visit, and when they could fit us into their international tour next year, it all seemed to dovetail perfectly,” explains Lord Henry.

“They had to reschedule a date on their WorldWired concert tour to be able to come and it will be a great thrill to see one of the greatest live acts in the world at Slane.”

This is the second hard rock band in a row for Slane Castle, after Guns N’ Roses brought 80,000 fans to Meath in May 2017.

Tickets for Metallica are expected to sell out in record time, as this will be the first time they have touched Irish soil in almost a decade – the last two dates having been in Belfast in 2010.

Lord Henry has once again urged fans to use the vast array of public transport available to enjoy the concert.

“Instead of using the car, which can mean delays for everyone, use one of the many buses or coaches, which makes it so easy to come and go to the concert,” he added.“Sadly I have no control over the weather, so if it rains, it rains!”

Metallica, which formed in 1981, is one of the biggest heavy metal groups in the world. Their 1991 self-titled album (aka the Black album) has sold 20 million copies worldwide.

The June 8th gig will have a distinctly Scandinavian flavour, with supports acts announced as Swedish metal group ‘Ghost’ and drummer Lars Ulrich’s favourite band, Norwegian rockers Bokassa.

Tickets from €89.50 go on sale this Friday 28th September at 10am.
